Our Story

Born in the
Workshops of
Rajasthan

Handivive began not as a business, but as a love letter to a craft that was quietly disappearing. In the narrow lanes of Barmer, where families have practiced bone inlay for five generations, we found something the world deserved to see.

Our founder spent years among master karigars, learning not just the techniques, but the patience — the way a single piece can take a craftsman forty hours to complete. We built Handivive around one belief: that the most beautiful furniture in the world shouldn't be mass-produced.

Every piece we ship to Sydney, London, or Los Angeles carries the fingerprints of a real artisan. Their skill. Their time. Their heritage.

The Process

How a Blank Plank Becomes
a Piece of Art

It takes between 30 and 90 hours. There are no shortcuts. There is only the artisan, their tools, and their will to create something extraordinary.

🪵 01

Selecting the Wood

Seasoned mango or sheesham wood, inspected for grain and moisture before it earns its place in a Handivive piece.

✏️ 02

Designing the Pattern

Artisans sketch the pattern freehand — geometric, floral, or custom. Transferred to the wood surface with chalk lines.

🔧 03

Carving the Channels

Hundreds of tiny channels carved by fine chisels — each one precisely sized for a single piece of bone. This alone can take 10+ hours.

🦴 04

Hand-Setting the Bone

Each piece of responsibly sourced bone is cut, shaped, and set by hand — one by one. No two pieces are ever identical.

05

Finishing & Polish

Sanded flat, sealed with natural lacquer, hand-polished. Inspected, photographed, and finally — ready for you.

I ordered a custom bedside table for our master bedroom in Sydney. When it arrived, I genuinely teared up. The bone inlay catches every angle of light differently. It's the first thing people notice when they walk into the room.
